hummer

Frontier Technology is manufacturing awesome PC towers such as this and plenty more, with a full gallery on their website. The reason why I felt this was blog worthy was definitely because their design is far beyond the limit of most cases which have lost the plot totally. They can manage design an extreme looking case and still keep it classy, personally, I hate the whole transparent windows, and bright glowing cables vibe…makes me feel like a 16 year old Counter-Strike LAN addict.

This design in particular is called Hummer and there are some other interesting ones, like the Formers case which is a take on transformers. Personally my favorite is the Shinobi model.

opensource_image

Here’s a list of 35 really cool open source programs, ranging from basic audio and video editors, to 2D animation and 3D design. Definitely worth a look at, latest versions included. One of my favourites are Blender, its far different from the usual 3d programs around like 3Ds Max or Maya, but extremely powerful and flexible. Tutorials for that can be found here. For now, make sure you check out the awesome open source applications, remember, open source means means free download, no need to break the law with virus infested cracks and keygens!

Check it out. 35 Best open source apps for design and…stuff!

brand logos

Yes…it’s a long one! How invasive did you really think brands are in our lives? This is from a woman named Jane (really who cares) all I can say is that she puts on too much make up and drinks too much beer for a woman. I mean, Heiniken 3 times? And 3 and a half encounters with Durex, well, at least its not at different times otherwise I smell a whore…hmmm. I wonder what weed she’s smoking however, I’m pretty anxious to do one of my own, but I err…have a bad memory and a…life?? Well maybe i’ll get to it one day!

Would you do one of your own? Or is it just a waste of time? Here’s the source

wtf-1

This car is an exercise in design for the Cadillac brand, meant to exhibit sustainability, and social influence. WTF is not actually what you think it is this time, it actually stands for World Thorium Fuel. Its a Conceptual design by Industrial Designer Loren Kulesus, check out his page on Coroflot. Its basically a car built to last another 100 years on the same fuel source. The fuel source in question is Thorium, I’ve never heard of it personally, so I’ve provided a wikipedia link if you’re interested. Coroflot is an awesome website to promote designers of all types, so I will definitly do a nice feature soon. Maybe i’ll even set up a profile! What do you think of the design?

adobe-pillows

Sweet! Here’s a set of Adobe icon pillows, featuring the most popular Adobe programs out there. You get a $10 discount if you the whole set, but these are kinda outdated really. These icons feature the Adobe Creative Suite 3 (CS3) icons, which most people still use today. But I’m sure that those who have updated to CS4 like myself, want the CS4 icons! You’ll be sure to have sweet design dreams, just beware cos I heard that the Flash pillow gives weird Actionscript nightmares…

You can get ‘em from here

plastd

Here’s a really cool logo of one of my friends events companies. The logo type was fully hand rendered, and given a cool web 2.0 effect in Adobe Illstrator. It goes to show that good ideas can still start on paper, and evolve into something like this. The contact details are in Americana Dreams, a pretty cool font although the numbers can get confusing with the underline.

These guys offer Dj and events planning for all occasions (South Africa only), and is definitely worth a call. Have a birthday coming up? Whip out your phone and save the number, you never know when it might come in handy. You can also join their Facebook Group to find out more.

tribook

Oh man, I want one of these babies. When it comes to Multimedia Design, I’m always short of screen space but this concept offers users twice the amount of real estate. Other than using each screen for browsing, chatting and porn, believe it or not, there are uses for it! Designers will appreciate this, you can have Adobe Bridge in the first screen, After Effects in the Main Screen and maybe use the third for other apps and browsing. If you noticed carefully, the touchpad extends from the center to each end. Yeah maybe ditch that before production. Judging by the size of the CD’s it looks like a 13″, but I’m no expert…Oh wait, I am ;)

Well anyway, I’d look forward to this if or when it comes out, the features are functional above all else, so i like that.  I wonder how movies will look on this… In my opinion, the gap to the adjoining screens should be seamless and as invisible as possible. But i’ll keep you updated about this prototype. What would you use this for? Leave a comment, speak your mind.

nature_911

This powerful thought provoking advert was designed by CLM BBDO in Paris, France,  for the Nicholas Hulot Foundation. The foundation is an environmentalist group that was created in 1990. The ad was taken from the famous image of the second plane crashing into the world trade center, and was photoshopped to replace the skyscrapers with trees. Really cool idea. The full size advert can be found here. On a side note, heres another cool ad by Corbis that also draws on the 9/11 event. [adsoftheworld]

juice_boxes

I don’t need to tell you how awesome this really is, fruit juice boxes that are designed according to what fruit flavour it contains! This instantly goes under the category of innovative branding.  Designed by Japanese industrial designer Naoto Fukasawa, the packaging is much more appealing to the eye by imitating the actual fruit that the drinks flavour contains. Above we can see banana, strawberry, and kiwi fruit flavours. His designs have won more than 40 awards in the U.S and Europe. He says; “I imagined that if the surface of the package imitated the colour and texture of the fruit skin, then the object would reproduce the feeling of the real skin.”

Wow, I’m impressed. I wish we saw more branding like this, well, not with meat of course. That would be seriously weird. Hit the jump for more designs from this project and an interview with the dude.
